Hughes Hopes to Break GOP Monopoly on Marion Board
A 20-year veteran of the automotive business is seeking to break the Republican monopoly on the Marion Township board.
Tim Hughes is running for the position of trustee in the Nov. 5 election.
“I am running for Marion Township trustee to bring my problem resolution skills — honed during 20 years in program/project management in automotive, to local government,” he said.
“My goal would be to help the Township develop a way to deescalate the heated encounters like the one we experienced around renewable energy project siting.
“I also want to give a voice to the one-third of Marion Township voters who don’t usually vote for Republican candidates. Republicans have a monopoly on the present township board. Conservatively, the township is 25–35% Democrat. Presently, these people don’t have a voice on the board. I would like to be their voice.”
Hughes retired here from Oakland County, bringing his 20 years of Automotive Program/Project Management experience with him. “I would like to offer my problem resolution skills to help the community I’ve retired to here in Livingston County,” he said.
As an example, Hughes cited renewable energy siting. He said he would “look at Renewable Energy Siting evenly, responsibly and with the long-term future in mind. Help the township develop processes that de-escalate the heated encounters while enabling our land to play a key role in meeting our nation’s clean energy targets.”
Hughes is the only Democrat running for Marion Township trustee.
Although there are multiple trustee positions on the ballot, voters can boost Hughes’ chances by voting only for him. It is not necessary to vote for every trustee position for your ballot to count.
