Craven Running for Genoa Clerk to Keep Elections above Reproach
A Genoa Township woman with experience working elections is pledging to make running free and fair elections her top priority if elected township clerk.
Monica Craven is the only Democrat to file for the position being vacated by Paulette Skolarus, who is not seeking re-election.
“I think the key issue for the township clerk is running free and fair elections that expand access and maintain impeccable election integrity,” she said.
“It is critical that we allow the voices of citizens to be heard, that we make voting access possible, and that we make sure to run absolutely top-notch elections.”
She has worked as an election inspector for five years in Genoa Township.
Craven said she decided to run to show her children the importance of citizen involvement.
“I am passionate about people having a voice in their community,” she said. “I see things in our community that need to improve and rather than hoping my elected officials will make those changes, I decided it was time for me to step up and see if I could make that change myself. I am running because it’s time for me to show my kids what it means to be actively involved in the process.”
Craven is married and has a son and a daughter who attend Light of the World Academy Montessori School in Pinckney.
She has a Bachelor of Science in fisheries and wildlife from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in nonprofit organizations from Case Western Reserve University. She graduated from Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor.
She works for a nonprofit housing organization and is a Girl Scout leader and Girl Scout service unit manager.
“I have extensive experience managing an organization, staff, finances, and working with Boards. I know that I can be an asset to our elections, township management, and Trustees,” she said.
